16th February 2025

Start seeds and corms indoors, it’s much to cold for them to naturally wake up outside and you could rot your plants before they have even got going!

In your handbook you have the dates you can get seeds started, but that does not mean you have to! There is more information in the Checklist this year so you know which ones can wait for flowers late Summer into Autumn.

If like me you have a greenhouse full of Autumn started plants you are going to want to give them some space and time to bloom and for your to enjoy them without the pressure of the next lot of seedlings being ready to go out!

If you would like to do a 2nd late Winter sowing, Agrostemma, Poppies, Sweet Peas and Snapdragons can be started now

I will hold off on the Clary Sage and Cynolglssom for the time being as it’s so cold and grey. Both are less hardy and could rot in the damp conditions.

Stocks are so quick to germinate and grow, I’ll be leaving mine for at least another couple of weeks until I’ve caught up on everything else.

Snapdragons take the longest so I’ll be doing these first.

Early February

I usually hold off sowing until Mid February, however if sown too late giant Poppies won’t achieve the vegetative growth needed. They also take a couple of weeks to germinate, by which time the light levels will be better.

All the details are the same, just start the seeds indoors to get them going first.

Do not cover seeds with compost, a propagator lid is fine xxx

Before we get started on the next round of sowing lets make a bit more room in the Greenhouse!
