Growing undercover

When using a polytunnel to grow in summer you need to be careful to select plants that can tolerate high heat conditions and are not too tall or they will hit the roof.

We find that along with the vegetables such as Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers flowers such as Zinnia’s fit the bill perfectly. Growing uncover you will be shielding plants for wind and rain and the defused sunlight will also cause stems to elongate and become taller than those grown out in the garden, perfect for cut flowers. Be wary of the plants drying out faster and check them regularly.

Time to check in on the Zinnia Seed Trials (23 July 2023)

In this video we also discuss the soil science.

Soil Science 3rd February 2024 Preparing beds for planting

We have grown intensively back to back in the poly tunnel for a number of years and while we have always added compost for soil structure and fertiliser for soil nutrients between plantings the soil will still slowly be degraded from what it once was. Time to replace the top soil layer!

I have included this video here because it includes a catch up on the recently planted Ranunculus and Anemones.

I thought you might like to see what the Ranunculus are looking like in the garden this week. You can order my exact corms this Autumn and join in with the next Grow-A-Long For a reminder sign up to my mailing list by clicking the link below https://mailchi.mp/0981b81dd95f/sign-up
