Pinching Snapdragons will give you multiple stems for better garden display and much more manageable stems for arranging flowers.
You can also take cuttings at this time of the year, you will just need a little more stem length.
Pinching Snapdragons Late Winter is the perfect time to sow a 2nd round of Snapdragons, they will bloom slightly later than the Autumn Jump Starter Snapdragons which should now be ready for pinching to create more bouquet sized stems. Full how to and why in this video.
If you would like to take Cutting with your pinched out tips you will need a little be more stem length.
Mini Butterfly Snapdragons have a natural branching habit and will flower multiple times so will be ‘pinched’ as we deadhead them. However you won’t ruin your plants if you do, flowers will just be that bit smaller.
See below for an extended video on both taking cuttings and then the next steps once they have rooted.
I explain the ‘pitfalls’ of ‘Pinching’ plants too early and rooting cuttings in water. I find I get much healthier plants when rooted in compost where the balance between air and water suits these plants much better.
I thought I would split this video into 2 parts
Part 1 – how to turn your pinched out tips into new plants
This will save you from having to fast forward the video to find the next steps which are in
Part 2 Potting up your Snapdragon cuttings and growing on
Hopefully that’s easier for you and of course you can watch both videos now if that’s what you prefer.
