Description
Statice ‘Garden Border Mix’
Limonium sinuatum
I have introduced this variety especially for a garden border display.
The stems are much more study and fill out the flower bed with lush, dark green foliage. The flowers are slightly larger than our other Statice varieties which have been bread to be delicate for floristry bouquet work, with long very slender stems.
Statice ‘Garden Border Mix’ however is still amazing for picking, it will fill your vases and it dries beautifully.
Use fresh, or dry stems for use during Winter. Simply tie stems tightly, turn upside down for at least a month in a cool dry location. Click here for a video.
A subtle blend of shades of lavender, pink, salmon and apricot, I have added lots of pictures to the photo gallery (the dried flower picture also features Statice ‘Apricot’ Limonium sinuatum).
How to grow:
Grows quickly from seed so you don’t want to start seeds too early, however, plants flower better if conditions are still cold following germination.
Sow seeds onto the surface of the compost. Seeds require light for germination so do not cover with compost.
A bit of warmth will help germination, 19-22°C is ideal.
Apart from the ‘odd’ blown over stem, plants are robust so should not require any staking.

Details:
Variety: Limonium sinuatum (sinuata)
Type: Half Hardy Annual
Position: Full sun
Sow: Spring
Spacing: Space 25-30cm apart
Height: 60-65cm
Plant: 22cm apart
Harvest: June/July onwards
Seeds per packet: 100 (approx. counted by weight)
Cutting /Vase Life:
Long summer days encourage flowering with plants surviving until the frosts. Harvest once 50% of the flowers have opened on a stem. If you pick them too early, stems can wilt. You will notice stems feel firmer under your fingers when they are ready for picking. Excellent vase life of 8 days or dry for indefinite use.
