Eucalyptus Blend Baby Blue, Silver Dollar and Murray

Eucalyptus cinerea, pulverulenta, populnea

This year we are adding to the Eucalyptus varieties we have grown in previous years with a very special bespoke blend.

Eucalyptus cinerea ‘Silver Dollar’

This variety has very attractive bark, it starts off more red fading to brown with age. Beautiful as a winter backdrop. The distinctive silvery green/grey foliage has a relaxed shape. Oval/coin shape leaves are the largest of all the eucalyptus we have grown. Probably the most popular eucalyptus in floristry, it is also very easy to work with.

Eucalyptus pulverulenta ‘Baby Blue’

Striking corkscrew stems used widely in floral art, there is really nothing quite like it. multi-branched, stems are almost white when fresh, fading to silvery green as they mature. You won’t be able to take your eyes off it.

Eucalyptus populnea ‘Murray’

The Perfect Container Variety, I have never grown such a smart, neat, eucalyptus. Fresh stem growth is a lovely red/brown colour, similar to ‘Silver dollar’. the leaves however are finer and more pointed, adding another different shape

How to grow:

For best results, store seeds in the fridge until you are ready to sow mid February onwards.

Sow either in modules or in an open seed tray (prick out seedlings once big enough to handle easily).

Germination can be erratic, some seedlings will appear fairly quickly while others could take many weeks to germinate. Start seeds indoors, not too hot, about 20°C is ideal and do not cover seeds, they need light to germinate.

Seeds can then be gently acclimatised to a cold greenhouse to grow on.

Essentially a tree, Eucalyptus ‘Boxwood’ can be pruned into a shrub by removing the main growing stem, giving lots of smaller branches or kept taller for beautiful screening.

Preferring an acid or neutral soil, I grow mine in containers. This also enables me to move plants to a sheltered winter location, as well as decorating my patio for the rest of the year.

Foliage is at its best during Summer and Autumn. Astonishing vase life also Lasts well out of water. Pick stems and place straight into buckets of water leaving to rest preferably overnight. This is called conditioning.
